Marine plants are part of a large family. They include mangroves, seaweed, plancton, seagrass, etc. They play an important role in the marine ecosystem by extracting large quantities of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and use this to create photosynthesis. The stored carbon is better known under the name of Blue Carbon.
93% of CO2 produced is stored in our oceans and seas, via Blue Carbon
20 gigatones of carbon are stored in posidonia seagrass
4x more CO2 are stored by mangroves than rainforest and tropical forests
